14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Technalign, Inc. has released version 3.1 of its Pioneer Linux distributions: Basic workstation, Stagecoach combined server/workstation and Migration server. All these workstations are powered by the wonderful K desktop environment (KDE) and they can be tested directly from the CD, no installation required. Pioneer users that still use one of the previous releases can upgrade anytime to this new version by running the update manager.
What's new in Pioneer Linux 3.1? Many things are new, for example the presence of Technalign's Electricity (powered by Wine-doors) software, which allows the end user to run many Windows-based applications. Moreover, the Cowgirl, Cowboy and Wrangler repositories were included, repos created in partnership with Automatix (a graphical interface for automating the installation - and uninstallation - of the most commonly requested applications in Debian-based Linux operating systems). The Cowboy repository contains the Electricity software and Icedtea (open source Java), Cowgirl contains software such as Real Player, Opera, Skype and many Adobe products, which require licensing (but are free) and, finally, the Wrangler repository will contain only commercial products such as HIATLANTIS, the Technalign CRM/Supply Chain Management software.
In other news, Technalign and Wintergreen Systems will offer low cost computers to the School Corporations in Indiana. These systems will be powered by Pioneer Linux and the price will be set to $199 per unit! "We are proud to be involved in this project.
