Anyone looking for a new optical drive, even though USB-based external storage seems more popular nowadays, the Pioneer BDR-207JBK may be just the thing for them.

This is one of those optical units that could convince people that they should still look into upgrading their CD or DVD drive.

After all, not often do Blu-ray writers with BDXL scribing support appear, and even less often do they have an arguably accessible price (18,000 JPY / $231 / 177 Euro).

BDXL disks have capacities of 100 GB or 128 GB, depending on how many layers they possess.

Pioneer's BDR-207JBK writes data onto them at the speed of 6X and also boasts the PureRead2 and Peak Power Reducer technologies.

Meanwhile, double-layer Blu-ray disks are written at up to 12X and other formats at varying rates as well.
