14 DAY TRIAL // Bill de Blasio, the current mayor of New York City, is determined to have horse-drawn carriages banned in this urban area and replace them with vintage electric cars.
American singer-songwriter Pink fully supports this initiative and is now asking that ordinary folks also get behind Mayor de Blasio's plan to make New York City a tad more animal friendly than it currently is.
Writing on the official website of green group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Pink explains that horses are social animals that should spend their time grazing and playing, and not pulling carriages on busy roads.
“Sadly, the 220 horses in New York City in the carriage industry endure a miserable, solitary life, forced to navigate through midtown traffic in all weather extremes pulling heavy loads of tourists,” the musician says.
Furthermore, “When not working, the horses don’t live in barns but in cramped stalls in an old tenement building without even enough room to stretch out.”
Pink goes on to argue that, as determined to ban horse-drawn carriages in New York City as Mayor Bill de Blasio might be, the fact remains that he still needs help to ensure that the initiative is successful.
Hence, people who hold animals close are asked to take to Twitter to voice their complaints about the practice of forcing horses to navigate New York City traffic while pulling carriages, and to encourage Bill de Blasio to move forward with his proposed ban.
