When the Pink Floyd website showed a large countdown clock back in May, fans got overly excited and patiently waited for the time to run out on the clock, presuming it would mark the announcement of a new album after more than two decades of silence.

Sadly for all of us, the countdown was merely to announce the launch of “The Division Bell” 20th Anniversary Box Set. While newsworthy in its own right, the announcement wasn't exactly what people were expecting, but today, as if out of nowhere, the good news they've been waiting for has arrived.

Rolling Stone can confirm, without a shadow of doubt, that there is a new album by Pink Floyd coming out. The news first came out when Polly Samson, wife of singer guitarist David Gilmour, tweeted on Saturday, “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River.’ Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful.”

The Wright she referred to is original band member and keyboardist Rick Wright, who died of cancer in 2008 when he was 65. As it turns out, the new album is connected to previous unreleased material that was recorded during the production of “The Division Bell.”

More details on the new album are offered by Durga McBroom-Hudson, a singer who used to tour with Pink Floyd in the 80s and early 90s, and who is also involved in this new project.

On her Facebook page she reveals that “The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled ‘The Big Spliff’ that Nick Mason spoke about).” She adds that the album exclusively contains previously unreleased songs.
