The Celsius all-season tires with retractable studs

Remember all those "James Bond" movies, in which the super-agent just pressed a button and his super-car did all sorts of crazy things (shoot rockets, deploy traps, eject enemies from the front seat etc.)? Well it seems that soon you'll be able to feel just like 007, since a company called Q Tires has developed Celsius, a very innovative pair of all-season car tires that pop-up retractable studs at the touch of a button.

Winter and slippery roads are among the most important causes of car-crashes around the world, and I believe that many of us (yours truly included) have had the very unfortunate experience of finding this out the hard way. Of course, there are several solutions available to this problem (safe driving being the most important), but most of them require drivers to purchase extra-accessories (snow-chains) or whole new sets of winter tires.

However, that's not the case with the Celsius tires, because these all-season "shoes" for your beloved car introduce a revolutionary new tire technology that deploys studs on demand in snow and ice. This very innovative technology enables air pressure from the main chamber of the tire to expand a secondary chamber, which lifts the studs above the surface of the tread. When road conditions no longer require studs, the air pressure is released to atmosphere and the studs retract below the tread face.

One of the greatest advantages of this system (besides its obvious utility) is that in order to activate it, the driver only has to press a button on a remote control, without going out in the snow or rain. Moreover, according to the company (and supposedly, some independent research), the Celsius tires are a lot safer than their studded counterparts, since they take a lesser toll on the roads and also provide a more solid grip on icy or wet roads.

There's no info on just how much these things will cost (probably a bit more than your average all-season tires), but if they really work like they're supposed to, they might really bring a very welcomed change in this industry.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
