Apple hopes that by 2006, 30% of the cars will offer iPod support.

During the press conference where iPod Nano and the iTunes compatible Motorola phone were announced, Apple has also announced that Audi, Volkswagen, Honda and the Acura division will offer integration
with iPod nano in their new models of cars.

At this moment, there are 15 companies which offer support for iPod, the most well known being BMW, Mercedes-Benz USA, Volvo, Scion and Ferrari.

While Volkswagen, Honda and Acura will introduce support for the iPod in the majority of models, Audi will offer this feature only for the A3, A4 and TT models.

Audi and Volkswagen will offer a separate connector so that the iPod can be installed for models made before 1999.

In this field, Apple is in direct competition with XM Satellite which is available on GM, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan and VW/Audi.
