Video game developer Obsidian is announcing that the success of Pillars of Eternity means that it will move ahead with its plans to create a full tabletop role-playing game based on the title and that it is already exploring possibilities for an expansion.

Feargus Urquhart, the chief executive officer of the studio, tells PC Gamers that a card game is the first new content associated with the game universe that might become reality.

A new group associated with Obsidian will launch a Kickstarter crowdfunding effort associated with it, which will allow four players to adventure in a remote location.

It seems that the Pillars of Eternity card game will not use a living model and that Chris Taylor, who led development on Fallout count, will be in charge.

When it comes to a full tabletop role-playing title based on the new universe, Obsidian is still exploring whether it wants to create a game that uses the same mechanics.

It's also possible that gamers will get a new type of Pillars of Eternity experience, and the studio is also interested in books and other products associated with the series.

More details will be offered in the coming weeks and gamers will be able to support the new content via crowdfunding.

Pillars of Eternity is also getting a full expansion

The CEO also says that at the moment the studio is focusing on making sure that no game mechanics are affected by bugs and that gamers can complete a campaign with no major trouble.

He believes that it will be about another month before work on a full expansion for Pillars of Eternity is set to start.

Urquhart adds that the studio wants to create a "story that expands parts of what you would see in that sort of old school expansions we made for Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate. So not just these three, four hour downloadable DLCs, but big chunks of a story and a new hub to go to and things like that."

Pillars of Eternity offers a classic RPG experience and manages to deliver a very solid story and some engaging mechanics both in conversations and in combat.

Patch 1.03 for the title is now out, and gamers will be happy to know that the double-click equipment bug is no longer a problem.
