The map needs a few more options to be useful

Raedrics Hold is one of the biggest early-game areas in Pillars of Eternity and it's the location where I became aware of one of the biggest problems with the title: the fact that there are no quest markers offered on the map.

I was looking for the Scrivener's quarter in order to use a key which would allow me to complete a quest, and there was no clear indication on how to reach it.

I did not know on which floor of the complex keep to look or whether I would need to exit via the courtyard and try another entrance.

After about half an hour of frenzied searching, I managed to find the area I needed by accident and I got to the end of my quest.

The lack of clear quest markers on the map is not a problem when Pillars of Eternity starts and players have a relatively limited number of tasks to deal with. But as the game progresses, there are plenty of moments when gamers will become unsure of where to head.

The issue consists in the fact that quests are often linked to names and I tend to forget exactly where the various NPCs are located and how to easily get to them.

This Pillars of Eternity issue is a pity given the fact that otherwise the title has a very solid user interface.

Obsidian has done well in terms of options and feedback

The development team has managed to impress when it comes to the amount of options gamers can tweak when playing.

They have full control over the amount of information they will get during combat or conversation, and the way the game plays can be changed significantly.

Obsidian even allows gamers to turn the difficulty down or up during a session in order to make sure that they can get past the more challenging battles without frustration.

Unfortunately, there's no option to add a simple arrow to the maps so that the player can always know where the next step in the current quest can be found.

It's a shame for a game as good as Pillars of Eternity to be affected by such a trivial problem - the lack of clear indications on where the scrivener's room actually is.
