Pillars of Eternity is one of the video games created using Kickstarter that managed to deliver a solid experience for backers, and the development team at Obsidian says that it has learned a lot from the process and might appeal to the service again in the future.

Feargus Urquhart, the chief executive officer of the company, tells PC Gamer that his company worked hard to make sure that it stayed in contact with its fans and listened to their ideas.

The process was foreign in many ways because, traditionally, they tend to be guarded when it comes to the titles they are working on.

The CEO states the backer beta for Pillars of Eternity was very important because "people were playing it, and obviously they had opinions of it, it let us have a better conversation with everybody about it."

Josh Sawyer, the game director, was able to select a number of players to talk with and refine his ideas about the game and its core mechanics.

Urquhart claims that the rogue class was completely reworked based on the feedback that the community offered and that many inventory elements were also tweaked to make sure that fans were satisfied with them.

Pillars of Eternity will get an expansion and more associated content in the future

Obsidian has also revealed that, at the moment, it is focusing on eliminating all the bugs and improving the balance of the role-playing game via patches.

Work on an expansion will begin in earnest once the company is satisfied with the state of the experience, but some ideas are already being explored.

An official announcement about the future content for Pillars of Eternity that will be offered to the people who have backed the title on Kickstarter will be made soon.

Obsidian will also work with another team to fund a card game based on the new universe it has created, which will offer a casual player experience focused on battles and exploration.

A full tabletop role-playing game linked to Pillars of Eternity is also in the planning stages, with the company looking to decide which mechanics it wants to implement.

Obsidian is not saying when the crowdfunding for the new projects might be initiated.
