The bird was believed to be a Pakistani spy

A white pigeon suspected of espionage was arrested by law enforcement officers in India last week. They didn't handcuff the bird or shove it in the back of a police car, but they did put it in a cage to make sure it wouldn't fly away mid-interrogation.

Further, intelligence agencies were alerted and asked to come have a look at the suspected feathered spy themselves. It is understood that the bird is still in police custody.

It actually made sense to detain the pigeon

RT tells us that the white pigeon suspected of espionage was found on Wednesday by a 14-year-old boy living in a village in the district of Pathankot in India's Punjab state.

The boy chased after the bird and captured it not because he thought its behavior suspicious, but because he wanted to keep it as a pet. While clipping its feathers to keep it from flying away, the teenager noticed some weird markings.

The markings, visible in the video below, were revealed to be a message in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, and the number of a landline telephone in Pakistan’s Narowal district. Consequently, the unlucky bird was deemed a Pakistani spy.

“This is a rare instance of a bird from Pakistan being spotted here. We have caught a few spies here. The area is sensitive, given its proximity to Jammu, where infiltration is quite common,” explained law enforcement officer Rakesh Kaushal.

They even looked inside the bird for clues

Since the markings on its feathers were clearly not a tattoo of sorts that the pigeon might have gotten one night when it was really hammered, authorities decided to further investigate the matter and used an X-ray machine to look inside the bird.

They didn't find anything, but nonetheless decided not to release the bird and instead keep it in custody for a while longer. It's unclear whether they also had armed guards monitor it at all times.
