14 DAY TRIAL // Last evening, May 12th, the Pidgin developers proudly presented the brand-new and improved Pidgin 2.7.0 multi-protocol, multi-platform, instant messenger client. The new version brings many fixes for the Yahoo! and Yahoo! Japan, AIM, XMPP, MSN, ICQ, Gadu-Gadu and Bonjour protocols, but also some very nice and interesting features (see below for details). Among some of those features, we can mention better integration in the notification area, better search dialog, ability to paste plain text (also Google Chrome pastes), support for large avatar images, and many more!
Highlights of Pidgin 2.7.0:
· Better integration in the system tray area by using G!tkStatusIcon; · Added a dialog for sending various attentions, such as BUZZ or nudge, for the protocols that support these features; · The search dialog, in the conversation window, was made unobtrusive (it now looks and behaves just like the Firefox search dialog); · Ability to set the global mood for XMPP and ICQ protocols; · You can now paste plain text in the conversation window, by using the CTRL+Shift+V key combination (advanced users can set this as default for copy/paste (CTRL+V) in the .gtkrc-2.0 file); · Glib and GTK+ requirements were set to versions 2.12.0 and 2.10.0, respectively; · Markup for buddy names is now supported; · Large images can now be used for buddy icons; · IPv6 support for the Bonjour protocol; · Thumbnail support when transferring images on the MSN protocol; · Better support for transparent proxies in the Yahoo! protocol; · The pager server address is now directly retrieved from Yahoo!'s servers (Pager server option was removed); · Make the Yahoo! authentication process act just like the one of the official Yahoo! IM client; · Removed version 9 of the MSN protocol, as it is no longer supported by the servers; · Fixed some NSS and GnuTLS crashes and autoconf detection for Python.
