Is it or is it not an iMAC competitor?

ASUS' Eee Family is bound to receive a new member, which has been subject to rumors for quite some time now. But although the Eee Monitor has been highly talked about, since the Computex show in Taipei, no one got a chance to see any pictures of ASUS' new product, until now. The guys at laptopmag have succeeded in getting their hands on a couple of detailed images of ASUS' Eee Monitor.

These pictures have been revealed soon after a number of photos with the future Eee PC 903, 904 and 904 have surfaced the web, this week. Although the pictures are "unofficial", they do offer a considerable number of details of what has been said to be ASUS' iMAC competitor. And from what we can see, it's safe to say that ASUS plans to join those all-in-one computer manufacturers.

Unfortunately, there was no attached specification list or a price and availability sheet, but a closer look at ASUS' Eee Monitor shows a number of connectivity options.

The Eee Monitor will apparently feature no less than 6 USB ports, with two of them being placed on the right side near the card reader, and the other four in the back panel, which will also sport two Ethernet ports, three audio ports and even a small slot that looks like a Kensington lock. What the pictures don't reveal is a power connector but this is probably because it's hidden somewhere inside the monitor.

The front side of the Eee Monitor features a built-in web camera and four buttons, which are probably designed for various display adjustments. We can't really say if the Eee Monitor will also incorporate some built-in speakers, but the lower part of its front side has enough space to accommodate a built-in audio system, especially since it has a Denon logo on the bottom part of the front side.

Not much more to say about the technical details, but if the monitor is in fact an all-in-one PC, people expect it to run an Intel Atom processor and according to the ongoing rumors, the Eee Monitor will also sport a built-in TV tuner. And all of these for a starting price tag of $500 and in two colors.
