America's inmates are living the cramped life, with the state of California taking the cake for most overcrowded prisons, with 140,000 inmates in 33 prisons.

California correctional institutions are designed to only hold 80,000 prisoners. As a result, inmates are sleeping in gyms and on hallways.

According to the Daily Mail, prisons in California are 39 percent over capacity, and they still have to welcome more inmates. It is expected that, by 2018, they will have surpassed their housing limit by 45 percent.

By June of next year, 30,000 prisoners will have to be released in California, to make room for new offenders.

Due to the crowded living environment and the now restricted access to the cafeteria, exercise yard, media room and other amenities, inmates are increasingly frustrated and likely to become violent.
