The self-absorbed koala currently lives at Wild Life Sydney Zoo in Australia

Selfies are fairly popular these day, but few would ever imagine animals could ever get behind this trend as well. As it turns out, these people could not be more wrong.

The picture above was taken at Wild Life Sydney Zoo in Australia, and it is a selfie. Thus, media reports say that the koala snapped the picture all by itself and even posted it in online minutes later.

What's more, rumor has it that, before assuming position in front of the camera, the koala spent several hours looking at itself in a mirror and trying to make sure that all the hairs on its body were well behaved and in the right place.

One can only assume that the creature spent so much time focusing on what its fur looked like that it completely forgot about how taking a picture of yourself while chewing on eucalyptus might ruin your reputation as a well-behaved gentleman.

Joking aside, Daily Mail tells us that the photo was obtained with the help of a camera fitted with motion sensor. The camera was hidden inside the koala's enclosure and, every time the creature passed by it, a picture was taken.

“The majority of Wild Life Sydney Zoo visitors either take photos of or with the resident koalas. It was great to do something where the koalas themselves get to own their moment in the spotlight,” said keeper Kylie Hackshall.
