The parrot featured in this picture is a rescue bird, and his wearing a woolly jumper is by no means an attempt to make a fashion statement.

Quite the contrary: Charlie needs to wear the jumper so as to keep warm, seeing how most of his body is pretty much feathers free. Sources say that the parrot did not lose his feathers because of some weird medical condition, but it ate them while being starved by his former owners.

Charlie now lives with Rebecca Blagg in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, who says that the parrot is slowly beginning to overcome the trauma of the abuses he suffered at the hands of his previous family.

“He had plucked himself. He had been eating his feathers to survive. He was at death’s door. I just wanted to give him a chance. He was extremely shut down. He was very depressed. He wouldn’t move or do anything, he just sat there,” Rebecca Blagg told members of the press.
