The picture above was shot in Botswana's Okavango delta by an amateur photographer who was merely taking part in a safari.

Wildlife experts explain that, before moving in for the kill, leopards spend hours up in a tree and closely monitor what is happening on the ground.

When the time is right, they jump from their hiding place and kill their prey sooner than one might expect. Sources say that the herbivore targeted by the leopard in the picture above was a female kudu antelope. Despite its being taken by surprise by the leopard, the antelope managed to kick it off its back.

“It landed with a thud on the kudu's back and attempted to grab on with its front claws. Unfortunately for the leopard, the kudu was too big and strong and with one mighty buck she flipped the leopard into the air and off of her,” photographer Eric Gurwin said.
