Granted, several other people are known to have come fairly close to grey whales before, yet kissing one such marine mammal is not something everybody gets to do, regardless of how much time they spend whale watching.
The grey whale in this picture is a female that, at the time of its very close encounter with the tourist, was accompanied by her calf.
Hopefully, the latter did not get very jealous when seeing its mother behaving in an affectionate manner towards a complete stranger. Sources say that the picture was taken by photographer Justin Hoffman, who commented on the whole experience as follows: “This is the most amazing wildlife encounter on the planet. It's impossible not to smile and laugh at these incredible whales.”
