The picture above was taken at Bristol Zoo and shows a young gorilla applauding herself for having had the courage to take a bath.

Wildlife researchers explain that these animals cannot swim, and that their ending up in the shallowest of pools can ultimately kill them.

“This is the first time I have ever seen this. I asked another regular who has visited them for years and they hadn't seen a gorilla taking a dip in the water either,” photographer Sue Demetriou explained.

Interestingly enough, this gorilla's decision to test the water might have had something to do with the fact that the pool in which it splashed about for a considerable period was strategically placed there so as to keep it from escaping its enclosure, Daily Mail says.

If I were one of the people working at the Bristol Zoo, I would make double sure that the animal had no plans to soon start training as an Olympic swimmer.
