Whale sharks can grow to weigh as much as 20 tonnes, which is why few would dare go for a swim with them. Unfortunately for the rest of the people, they surely miss one heck of an experience.

The photo above was taken by Pablo Cersosimo from Argentina in the waters off Isla Mujeres in Mexico, and shows one of the photographer's friends swimming alongside a whale shark.

Despite their impressive size, whale sharks are not aggressive, which is why neither the diver, nor the photographer feared coming so close to the creature.

Commenting on this experience, 45-year-old Pablo Cersosimo said that, “From the first moment the shark approached, I was amazed by the sheer size of the huge creature. I'd never seen sharks this big in the open sea.”

“The shark's movements were graceful and slow, but he still managed to cover distances very fast compared to us humans,” he added, as cited by Daily Mail.
