Picasa has been getting some much deserved attention from Google lately. Whether it has anything to do with Google's new-found fondness for anything with 'social' in it or not remains to be seen, but it's good to see that Google can still turn its attention to its more neglected products once in a while.

The latest update to Picasa Web Albums brings a number of tweaks, changes and fixes, most of which have been long awaited and requested by regular users.

"We recently made some updates to Picasa Web Albums to address some of your top feature requests. In addition to sorting your displayed albums on Picasa Web by upload and album date, you can also now sort by album title. Visit your My Photos tab, then select 'Album title' from the drop-down menu," Tammy McLeod, Software Engineer at Google, announced.

"We’ve also made it easier to update your album visibility and photo location settings with a new 'Edit visibility' link. Quickly see your visibility settings across all your albums, make changes, and when you’re all set, click 'Done'," he explained.

The changes and new features are by no means major, but it's these small things that set apart good products from great ones. One addition is the possibility of sorting albums alphabetically rather than by date.

A second addition is the possibility of editing visibility settings for all albums in one place via a very easy to understand interface. Location visibility preferences can be assigned from the same place. Until recently, it wasn't very obvious what privacy setting your albums had or how to change it.

Finally, Google made it possible to transfer all uploaded content - photos videos - as well as your comments and the people you follow in Picasa to another Google account. If you believe you know a feature that should be included in Picasa, you can check out the forum and have your voice heard.
