Every time we open up a magazine or we see a movie poster, we know what to expect: lots of airbrushing and Photshop work. At times, the resulting image is miles away from what we know to be the real thing and, paradoxically, this doesn't 'offend' us in the least - why should it, when we are being offered something that is qualitatively above the real thing? At other times, the Photoshopped image is so scandalously different from the original, that people just go on to ask themselves if the person in it really posed for it or someone just drew them in.
While I'm not an expert at such things (nor do I pretend to be one), I imagine even a blind man could see the amount of work that went into this brand new international poster for 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer', featuring Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman. Call it what you will, it's sad when someone thinks taking the actress who has just recently been named the sexiest woman on the planet and altering her image almost beyond recognition is something cool.
Even if you're not a fan of Jessica's (either of her body of work, or of her body... of work - if you know what I mean), you have to give this to me: this woman has some very beautiful and well delineated facial features. Her face is almost perfect and her bone structure could have easily made her a famous supermodel, had she not gone for a career in movies. Add to that, a very kissable mouth, an olive-like complexion and a distinctive jaw line and you kinda get the main idea: Jessica Alba sets herself apart from the thousands of women who are now trying to make a name for themselves in Tinseltown.
Yet, that wasn't enough for whoever made this poster: they took Jessica, slimmed down her jaw line, made her eyes larger (waaay much larger!), whitened her with at least a couple of shades, made her mouth smaller and fleshier and, finally, came up with this - woman who rather resembles Denise Richards instead of the gorgeous original.
Just to set the record straight, I have nothing against the practice of Photoshop and neither am I such a huge fan of this particular actress and, still, I say it's a shame to go and just ruin such a pretty face. A studio insider told 'Us Magazine', in what regards this poster, that 'The character of Sue Storm is blond-haired, blue-eyed, just as she was in the first Fan 4 film, just as she was conceptualized and realized in the comic book series'. I say that's just weird. I mean, they could have taken Pamela Anderson and Photoshopped her till kingdom come and she would have looked more like Jessica Alba than the woman on this poster does. Word!
