After waiting, waiting, and waiting, jumping up and down with every rumor, the graphics professionals using Macs can finally
stop holding their breaths and relax, because the public beta of Adobe's Photoshop CS3 is out! As expected, we got a Universal Binary that runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Core 2 Duo processors. OK, great, but let's see the goodies now, shall we?

First of all, there's going to be a new interface. Although I am happy with the current interface that can be found in Photoshop CS2, I don't even want to remember all those months that I simply refused to move from Photoshop 7 to CS because I just hated the changes (if I recall it well, I jumped straight to CS2, from Photoshop 7, just like I did when moving from version 5 to 7...).

The good part is that CS3 seems to have the most customizable interface ever when talking about all Photoshop's versions so far, and the single-column toolbar and the palette scheme are the most noticeable changes. If you like the traditional way, you can change back to the traditional toolbar without problems, but I am sure you'll appreciate the new "Maximize Screen Mode" view which automatically adjusts the window size as you add and collapse palettes.

Camera Raw has gone through some serious changes, and now, you can use its dialog window to edit both JPEG and TIFF files, as well as RAW ones.

The Quick Select tool is an excellent addition to the existing selection tools arsenal, being incredibly easy to use and giving you a new level of control over the selections.

The other enhancements and changes include better curves, revised printing, black and white conversion control, auto align and auto blend, an improved Bridge and Smart Filter, all these being 685MB of data to download away, but I hope you remember that you have to own a valid serial for a CS2 application to run the public beta we talked about here... Enjoy it!
