Mobile phone carrier Verizon is expected to add to its offering in the not too far future a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system and included in its DROID family of devices, namely the DROID Incredible 2. No official announcement on the matter emerged for the time being, but the handset was rumored before to be headed for Verizon's network in the near future, and some more info on the matter emerged.

This device is expected to be released at Verizon Wireless as the successor of the popular DROID Incredible device that went on sale at the wireless carrier about a year ago, and should arrive along with another another device from HTC, the Merge.

The DROID Incredible 2 was spotted not too long ago in Verizon's system, and should arrive as a version of the Incredible S, which was announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

The guys over at AndroidSPIN managed to grab a few photos with the smartphone, and report that it is a nice device.

The specifications list of this phone would include a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor, complemented by a 4-inch Super LCD touchscreen display that can deliver a WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) resolution.

Moreover, the new device would include 768MB of RAM and 1.1GB of ROM, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, and an 8-megapixel photo snapper with 720p HD video recording capabilities.

The specs list of this device would also include a 1450mAh battery, as well as Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system (though it would run Android 2.2 Froyo until launch).

All in all, it seems that some very appealing devices are on their way to Verizon's network, as the DROID Incredible 2 would be accompanied by a series of 4G LTE devices at the wireless carrier as well.

However, exact info on the release of these smartphones lacks at the moment, so stay tuned to learn the news on them.
