Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is on the verge of delivering a new BlackBerry handset sporting a clamshell form factor to the market. This is, in fact, the same as the high-resolution photos with the device that emerged around the Web. Dubbed BlackBerry 9670, the new mobile phone from RIM reportedly runs under the BlackBerry OS 6.0 platform, and the available photos enable enthusiasts have a glimpse at the software solution too.

According to a recent article on BGR, which brought the photo gallery of BlackBerry 9670 to the Internet, this upcoming availability of a new flip device from RIM is confirmed (speculations on the matter emerged a long time ago). Following RIM's BlackBerry Pearl Flip, the new clamshell handset is set to land on the market with a great deal of new features, as well as with highly upgraded features and hardware specs.

First, we should note that the BlackBerry 9670 clamshell is expected to arrive on the market with CDMA connectivity options, along with a full QWERTY keyboard, and with a 360 x 480 pixel internal screen, which is coupled with a large external display. Moreover, it should also include a trackpad and, of course, that BlackBerry OS 6.0 RIM has been previously rumored to work on.

Additional specs of the new mobile phone include a 5-megapixel photo snapper (a welcome upgrade for a BlackBerry device), microUSB port, and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are packed inside it too, all in a handset that sports a metallic finish casing.

For the time being, these are the only available details on BlackBerry 9670, BGR states. Hopefully, more info will emerge in the near future, as there are certainly a wide range of users interested in when and where the device lands on the market, or on what new features OS 6.0 brings into the mix. Keep an eye on this space for further updates. You can check on the entire photo gallery at BGR here.

It's an ugly little cuss, but it has good specs. Since I'm not shallow enough to put form over function, I'd buy the 9670 as long as it seemed like a good, reliable BlackBerry.
