Smarter scans for improved overall system performance

According to Bitdefender, the newly launched line of products brings to the table significant optimization of the scan speed and file processing, with direct impact on overall system performance.

Dubbed Photon, the new technology is an extra component designed to optimize the way the scan engine is triggered to check various files.

It adapts to the list of programs available on each system, and the algorithm behind it basically combines application reputation with file fingerprinting, in order to analyze and determine which applications can be trusted implicitly and, therefore, should not be checked.

This way, the scanning process focuses only on infected or suspicious items, shortening the time required for completion.

Should any of the trusted items undergo a modification, Photon automatically detects it based on the ID and engages the necessary anti-malware technologies included in the product to eliminate the threat.

App reputation system works by assessing the level of trust for each application, based on the IDs of its components. The information might not be available locally, in which case the answer is retrieved from the cloud.

Although the information from the cloud is extremely important, Bitdefender products do not need constant connection to the Internet in order to perform selective scanning, because Photon maintains a local database with the fingerprints and app reputation ratings.

This database is customized for each user according to the applications available on the system, and the list is updated from the cloud when the connection is restored.

Overall, with Photon on board, Bitdefender products should spend less time scanning and, when file assessment has to be carried out, it would focus on untrusted applications.
