Green Volcano has released a major update to its high-performance digital photo workflow application designed for both professional photographers and advanced photography enthusiasts. Photon 1.1 makes it easier than ever before to review and organize large numbers of photos, now adding a "Discards stack" feature and a "File stack" feature. The demo version of the updated Photon is available right HERE.

There's more, of course. Major portions of Photon's caching engine were re-written for improved speed and responsiveness, according to the developer, while version 1.1 also adds the ability to save and recall stacks when quitting and re-launching the application. The above-mentioned "Discards stack" and "File stack" features keep track of unwanted files, providing a way to send them to the Trash and allow the user to physically move existing files to a new location on their hard drive respectively.

An added preference for controlling memory card auto-downloading and improved memory card download performance are also among the tweaks Photon 1.1 brings with it. Bug fixes and a bunch of other minor updates are also in order.

To put it in simpler terms, Green Volcano describes its tool as "a new kind of image browser". Photon was built from the ground up with speed and simplicity in mind, according to the company, only to deliver cutting-edge performance for professionals or enthusiasts who need to review large numbers of high-resolution images.

Whether you load your images directly from a memory card or from a folder on your hard drive, you will be able to start viewing your images within seconds. In addition to reading almost any digital image format, Photon can also convert your images to JPG, PNG, PSD and many others. Naturally, batch convert is just one of Photon's many included abilities.

Requirements call for G4, G5 or Intel CPU and a minimum of 1GB of RAM. The demo version prevents users from exporting stacks.
