It is said that one image is worth a thousand words. But a comparison between two images seems to worth more than just two thousand words. The US Geological Survey researchers went to photograph the US glaciers from the same direction as they were photographed in the first decades of 20th century. Here there are a few examples (if there's any doubt the left image is the oldest).
