Could the Crown really be that strapped for cash or is this a PR stunt?

There have been some reports flying around towards the end of last year that the British Crown was overspending and was reduced to make drastic budget cuts, but this really takes the cake. A photo published on Twitter alleges that Prince William was spotted flying coach from Memphis to Dallas.

The 31-year-old appears sideways in the photo taken with a phone camera from behind the seats and you can't really tell if it's his face poking, although his easily recognizable receding hairline does give some hints as to his identity.

The passenger who took the photo praised the royal by calling him “humble” and “awesome.” The man who later posted a photo of the royal on Twitter, claimed that Williams reserved a window seat and only ordered one water. “I am still amazed #Prince William flies COACH. That’s pretty humble/awesome. Who knew?” he captioned the photo.

Of course, you'll say, this could all very well be a glorified case of mistaken identity, but the eyewitness later posted a photo of the man believed to be William headed for the gate in jeans, a blue shirt and a baseball cap, and the resemblance is uncanny.

Also, there is circumstantial evidence that supports his presence in America. William flew in stateside with his brother Harry to attend the wedding of a family friend by the name of Guy Pelly. The nuptials took place in Memphis and that justifies his presence on that flight.

Of course, if it does turn out to be true, this wouldn't be the first time that a royal has flown coach like the rest of us weary air travelers. Back in 2011, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, were spotted on a coach flight from Edinburgh to Manchester.

One of the reasons being given for this unusual move that was speculated on social media was that the Prince chose to fly coach because he was accompanied by security guards from Scotland Yard's Royalty Protection Squad. Since these men pay for their own flights out of the taxpayer's pocket, the royal chose to spend as little as possible.

Insiders reported that this isn't by far the first time that this method is used and that it does save a lot of money on traveling expenses for the Prince's security detail. It's good to know that the Crown is thinking about the little people too, especially since they pay the bills from taxes.
