Daniel Botelho has recently released a photo he took quite some time ago in the waters near San Diego, showing an amazing alien-like marine creature.

The Mola mola, also known as the sunfish, can grow to be 14 feet (4,46 meters) long and weigh a whopping 5,000lbs (about 2,268 kilograms).

In case you were wondering, this makes it the largest bony fish to roam our aquatic ecosystems now.

Although one could not really tell, judging by their impressive size, Mola molas are quick in making an escape.

Daniel Botelho tell us that, out of five representatives of this species, which were in the water when he decided to go in and take some pictures, only one decided to stick around and pose for the camera.

Apparently, the other four disappeared in quite a rush.

As far as we are concerned, such amazing marine creatures need be seen as proof of how rich the planet is in terms of biodiversity. Therefore, they are to stand in the front row when it comes to raising awareness with respect to environmental protection.
