The new PV1765w model

Digital photo frames have become quite popular over the past few years, as they allow the users to view their favorite shots even in the absence of a computer. And this is the reason why the people over at PhotoVu have come up with a new and advanced device of this type, namely the PV1765w, which offers users a 17-inch display and advanced connectivity options.

The most important selling point of any digital photo frame is represented by its display and the new PhotoVu model really takes the cake in this department, as it incorporates a 17-inch TFT LCD display, which supports resolutions of up to 1280 x 800, 24-bit or up to 16,000,000+ colors. Moreover, the display has a brightness level of 250 cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 500:1, a 0.291mm pixel pitch and supports images with sizes of up to 5616 x 3744 (although all the images are automatically resized to 1280 x 800).

The device is compatible with the best-known photo-sharing websites around, namely flickr, Google Picasa Web Albums, Apple iPhoto & .Mac and SmugMug and provides an AutoFeed Configuration function, which allows users to configure photo feeds on the device and then send them to another PhotoVu user via USB. Moreover, the digital photo frame includes a support for the SmartSynch function, which means that the device can synchronize with SmugMug and iPhoto 6 Photocasts (if photos are added/deleted within an album, the changes will be reflected the next time RSS feeds are updated).

As mentioned earlier, the device supports 802.11b (11Mbps) networks, as well as WEP 64/128bit protection (but it's upgradeable to 802.11g and WPA3), but it also includes an USB 2.0 connector, for normal operation.

"This is clearly a premium digital picture frame at a very affordable price, making a PhotoVu the perfect gift for the 2007 holiday season" said Mark Van Buskirk, Partner, PhotoVu. "And our new PV1765w still includes all of the industry leading features and customization options that PhotoVu is well known for."

Those people who are considering purchasing this thing should take into consideration the fact that it retails for around 700 US dollars, which is a lot more than a comparable PC monitor with the same size, but it's a rather fair price, taking into account the multiple connectivity and display options the device can provide.
