Apparently not satisfied with the uproar its SATA 6.0 Gbps SSD will likely cause, PhotoFast has also decided to announce the impending arrival of the Power Drive-LSI, a very fast SSD designed for the PCI Express x8 interface.

Just a short while ago, PhotoFast revealed that it will soon start shipping a solid state drive much faster than most, if not all current SATA solutions.

For the most part, the so-called G-Monster3 XV1 is unusual because it does not settle for the SATA 3.0 Gbps interface.

Basically, it can read and write at up to 430 MB/s and 300 MB/s, respectively, though the controller used is not known yet.

Now, the same company is trying to turn even more heads with a SSD aimed at the PCI Express x8 interface.

Available in 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB, the new product utilizes MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips.

The SSD also lacks the issue that the first PCI Express SSDs had, namely the inability to act as boot drives.

What's more, PhotoFast built them with internal RAID and 512MB of DDR2 to act as cache memory.

All in all, the newcomers can read data at speeds of up to a strong 1,400 MB/s, while writing is, apparently, done even faster, at 1,500 MB/s.

No doubt the product will prove to be an especially performance-enhancing asset to any server of HPC system, or even PCs (should one have the required financial resources) that requires fast access times.

Unfortunately, availability won't ramp up until next month, when the 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB versions will also get their price tags as they have, sadly, not yet been disclosed.

Those that seek a first-hand view of the specifications, and are fluent in Japanese, can stop by the official website.
