Without a doubt, there are fans of HBO’s hit show “Game of Thrones” who have not yet read George R.R. Martin’s novels on which it’s based but those who did already know that Martin’s Iron Throne is much more terrifying than the one shown on screen.

For one, his Iron Throne doesn’t allow its occupant to move around without being cut, but it’s also taller, uglier and not necessarily the kind of piece of furniture you’d kill (or die) to have around the house.

In a post on his blog, the author says that he’s finally found an almost accurate representation of the Iron Throne he created in his mind – and it belongs to artist Marc Simonetti.

“This Iron Throne is massive. Ugly. Assymetric. It’s a throne made by blacksmiths hammering together half-melted, broken, twisted swords, wrenched from the hands of dead men or yielded up by defeated foes… a symbol of conquest… it has the steps I describe, and the height,” Martin writes.

“From on top, the king dominates the throne room. And there are thousands of swords in it, not just a few. This Iron Throne is scary. And not at all a comfortable seat, just as Aegon intended,” the author adds.

For comparison, the second photo in the gallery is HBO’s version of the Iron Throne. It’s still pretty impressive but “tame” compared to the other one.
