14 DAY TRIAL // Of all the things people could be offended about, perhaps this is the least expected: Steven Spielberg, whilst a much appreciated filmmaker, is the scum of the universe for slaughtering a Triceratops and posing with its carcass. The Internet is outraged.
If you just finished reading that first paragraph and you don’t get it, welcome: you’re among those who know that this dinosaur lived until about 66 million years ago, when it went extinct. Unless Spielberg has a time machine, there’s no way he could have posed with the carcass of an actual Triceratops.
Either because we’ve become so used to the idea of finding offense in everything, or because we’re getting too lazy to do research so we believe everything everyone else is telling us, the photo above went viral a few hours ago, even though it was posted as a joke from a satire-type Facebook account.
It’s an older shot of Spielberg with a movie prop that looks like the dino, and comes with a caption in which he’s being vilified for posing “happily” with the carcass, for being a “recreational hunter” and a shameful “despicable man.”
The poster encourages all those who find Spielberg’s gesture a spit in the face of Mother Nature to share the photo. Responses to it range from hilarious (from those who got the joke) to fuming mad (from those who didn’t).
One commenter even says he “doesn’t care” who Spielberg is, he should not have “killed that animal.” Another even goes as far to say the poor animal would have been better off at the Zoo.
Now that Spielberg had his way with it, this can’t happen anymore. For that, this person promises never to watch a single movie of director makes ever again.
