Here is something to make even the blackest of hearts turn a lighter shade of grey. One girl from San Diego, Sophia Bailey Klugh by her name, aged just 10, wrote to the President to congratulate him on his stance on same-gender marriage – and he wrote back.

Neither letter is new, since the exchange took place earlier this month but Thanksgiving feels like the perfect time to bring it up.

Click on the image above to read Sophia’s letter: she tells Obama she wrote to him before to ask him over for dinner but he never showed up. It’s ok, she understands he’s a busy man.

Either way, she wants to congratulate him on his stance on same-gender marriage, mostly because she too has two daddies and she knows better than anyone else that love is love no matter the color, the age or the gender.

She is also happy the President is standing up for gay rights because, this way, perhaps kids won’t make fun of her anymore one day.

Even more amazing is that the President wrote back, as The Huffington Post reports.

“In America, no two families look the same. We celebrate this diversity. And we recognize that whether you have two dads or one mom what matters above all is the love we show one another. You are very fortunate to have two parents who care deeply for you. They are lucky to have such an exceptional daughter in you,” Obama wrote to the little girl.

As for her question on what should she do when kids make fun of her for having two dads, Obama wrote simply: “A good rule is to treat others the way you hope they will treat you. Remind your friends at school about this rule if they say something that hurts your feelings.”

He also wants her to know that he will definitely say hi to his daughters from her, even though he could never make the time to come over for dinner.
