Guerilla artist Banksy is now in New York on a one-month residency, during which time he will be unveiling a new work, painting or installation, every day in different areas of the city, which he will then make public on his website.

His latest piece can be found in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood and is a depiction of the Twin Towers right before they collapsed on 9/11, after the planes crashed into them.

The explosion is created through the insertion of an orange chrysanthemum singed at the edges, into a crack in the wall.

The New York Post notes that the piece has already been defaced twice, which brings the question of whether Banksy isn’t getting political on purpose, to provoke other graffiti artists into this type of reaction.

At the same time, other US media outlets are asking the people at home if Banksy might not be pushing it by taking on the 9/11 disaster as the object of his art, in New York City of all places. What do you think?
