Just a few days ago, on May 19, Dickerson Park Zoo in the United States welcomed an adorable baby giraffe. The calf was born to mom Gidget, and zoo staff says that it stood up and started feeding a couple of hours after delivery.

According to Zoo Borns, the photo above was taken shortly after the baby giraffe's arrival into this world. It shows the calf rubbing noses with its mom, and I for one think that it is nothing short of endearing.

Caretakers say that, for the time being, the giraffe calf stands about 6 feet (approximately 1.82 meters) tall. However, it still has quite a lot of growing up to do before it can look its mother in the eye, the same source informs.

Presently, keepers at Dickerson Park Zoo cannot say whether the baby giraffe is a boy or a girl, and it will probably be a while until they solve this mystery. Hence, they calf has not yet been named.

In case anyone was wondering, 21-year-old Gidget appears to be doing a great job looking after its newborn. Then again, this female giraffe has until now delivered 11 other offspring, so there is no denying that it has motherhood all figured out.
