One of the first Windows Phone handsets from Nokia

In the coming months, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is expected to unveil its first handsets running under Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, and what appears to be one of these devices has just made an appearance in a leaked photo.

Called Nokia 703, the new device appears to be a mid-level Windows Phone handset, with specifications in line with what we've seen inside last year's handsets.

The hardware inside the new device seems to be in line with what some of the latest smartphones from Nokia included, which suggests that it might feature a low price tag, just as they were announced to sport.

For example, the leaked shot with the new device appears to unveil info on a 3.7-inch touchscreen display that might boast an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, a Clear Black panel.

The handset might also include 8GB of internal memory, and an indistinguishable amount of RAM, though it should be of at least 512MB.

On the back of this device, users should expect to find a 5-megapixel photo snapper, one that can deliver support for 720p HD video recording.

The rest of the specification are still a mystery for the time being, and the legitimacy of this leak is questionable as well, though there is a great chance that the Nokia 703 will indeed prove real.

The smartphone was already spotted in a Windows Phone application available for download via the Marketplace, which suggests that it will indeed arrive on shelves in the not-too-distant future.

Of course, what remains to be seen is what exactly Nokia will pack inside the smartphone, and when it will make an appearance on shelves. For the time being, we'll take the info that just leaked on Nokia 703 with a grain of salt.

The company is expected to make its first Windows Phones official before the end of 2011, and might put them on shelves before year's end as well, though they will be released only in select markets in the beginning.

Nokia will begin mass production of Windows Phone devices only next year, and it will be then when its new devices will enjoy global availability.
