Following the launch of 5.5-inch and 6.1-inch smartphones from companies such as Samsung, Huawei and others, Sony Mobile might also bring to the market a handset that would fall into the phablet category.

A purported 6.44-inch display from Sony has made a photo appearance online, supposedly capable of delivering a full HD resolution and destined to be packed on the company’s next phablet.

Provided that Sony is indeed considering the launch of a 6.44-inch Xperia device, it would make it the largest smartphone in its class, given that Huawei Ascend Mate, the holder of this title at the moment, packs only a 6.1-inch HD screen.

For those out of the loop, we should also note that Samsung was recently rumored to plan launching a 5.8-inch phablet, while ZTE was said to be working on a 6.3-inch Nubia Z7 device.
