A baby was left in a locked vehicle in a parking lot with a note asking those looking inside to call the mother in case of an emergency.

As I reported, the shot was snapped by a couple that noticed the baby outside a Pak'nSave in Porirua, New Zealand.

Fairfax police have started investigating the incident in an effort to locate the child's mother, according to spokesman Nick Bohm.

"What we will be doing is working with Child, Youth and Family so we can identify the mum and get some social workers involved with her so she gets the support she needs," he tells TVNZ.

Bohm adds that nobody has reported the sighting in due time, so officers have little to go on apart from Facebook entries.
