This photo of Frank Tanabe, a 93-year-old WWII veteran living in Hawaii, was posted on Reddit on Thursday and it has already received half a million upvotes.

According to Fox News, the picture was uploaded by Tanabe's grandson, to let people know what kind of man his grandfather is.

Mr. Tanabe's daughter Barbara helped him fill out an absentee ballot. This is likely the veteran's last vote, as he is suffering from inoperable liver cancer. His condition is deteriorating, and three weeks ago he had to be put in a hospice.

He is a Japanese American, and was taken to the Tule Lake internment camp in California, along with 110,000 other hyphenated Americans, under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's order, during WWII. He was a student at the time, at the University of Washington. Still, he volunteered to serve in the army and fight for America.

"It's hard to imagine - after his family business is torched, his family imprisoned, and denied the opportunity to finish his college education - he volunteered to serve. I don't know if I would have done the same thing, but we are all very proud of him," his grandson said.

"This is America. Amen," one of the commentators said, touched by the effort the veteran made to make a difference by voting.
