A new photo is making the rounds purporting to show a batch of battery cells for the up and coming iPhone 5S, another one of Apple’s bi-annual smartphone revisions with minor enhancements.

While the iPhone 5S itself remains to be confirmed, Apple is undoubtedly on track to release a new version of its much coveted smartphone.

And going by Tim Cook’s comments at his last meeting with shareholders, this iPhone 5S is just a few months away.

What everyone is more interested in are the specs. What screen size will it have? How crisp are the photos it churns out? What colors will it be available in? That sort of thing.

Another crucial aspect about the iPhone 5S is the battery. People want more than just one day of juice to browse the web, take photos, watch videos, listen to music, and post their updates to Facebook. So what they need is a high-capacity battery.

We don’t know if that’s the case with the iPhone 5S. Especially with this new leak from France which purports to show a batch of iPhone 5S battery cells waiting to be rigged up with flex cables and labels.

These batteries could be for anything from notebooks to phablets, but Nowhereelse.fr thinks the leak holds water.

Considering the resemblance between the hardware in this photo and the actual battery pack inside the iPhone 5S, we tend to agree.

The leak also conveniently aligns with a recent report saying Apple is taking aboard new battery suppliers.

According to sources in the upstream supply chain cited by DigiTimes the other day, “Apple has selected two Taiwan-based notebook battery pack makers to supply battery packs for use in a new-generation iPhone.”

The Cupertino giant is also said to have expanded its horizons as far as manufacturing is concerned, reducing its reliance on Foxconn and signing new contracts with Pegatron, Wistron, and Compal.
