Digital cameras, even the advanced amateur or semi-pro ones, have reached such a level of quality that they can shoot photos which look simply amazing, especially when in the hands of a skilled photographer. However, viewing the respective photos on a HDTV's screen might prove a bit tricky, since users have to setup some cables in order to do so, and these always seem to get misplaced exactly when they are needed most.

Pie United has come up with a much simpler solution to this issue in the form of the HDMI 1080P Digital Photo Viewer. Although this particular device is not exactly a world's first (despite their claim), since we've seen several other more or less similar products arrive on the market lately, it does provide a couple of very interesting features, whether we're talking about its level of versatility, its ease of use or the fact that it can actually deliver 1080p video.

First and foremost, it's interesting to mention the fact that, as its name implies, the device connects very easily to a TV set, via its built-in HDMI interface. However, besides HDMI, the photo viewer also incorporates Component and Composite video outputs, a USB 2.0 interface (for connecting an USB flash drive or USB HDD to the Photo Viewer), plus a memory card reader that works with most memory card formats existing on the market, including here CF Type I/II, SD, SDHC, MMC, MS, MS Pro, MS PRO Duo, SmartMedia plus Micro SD, T-Flash, Micro SD, xD with an adapter.

The device also offers users a very high level of versatility regarding compatible files, since it works quite well with JPEG/HD JPEG photos, MP3/WMA/MPEG-Audio Level 1,2 audio files, Mpeg1/2/4, Divx4.1/5.0/5.1, AVI, XVID video files. Practically, it can always double as a standalone media player, should the user wish so.

Unfortunately, there's no info on the pricing of the device from Pie United, but if it's within “decent” limits, it might actually prove to be quite a huge hit in the future.
