A 23-year-old stewardess at China Southern Airline who was about to get married reportedly died electrocuted after using an iPhone 5 connected to a wall charger.

J. Wong, managing director of Meizu, offered his take on the matter, saying, “With a very low level of voltage, a mobile phone itself is not life-threatening.” However, if the charger has a current leakage, there could be risks, he said.

And that’s most likely what happened in Ma Ailun’s case. The flight attendant was due to get married next month. Police confirmed Ma Ailun died from electrocution, but said they will continue to investigate the case.

Apple itself responded to the incident stating, “We are saddened by this unfortunate accident and our deepest condolence goes to the victim's family. We will conduct a thorough investigation and be fully cooperative.”
