There’s no such thing as a “Trojan Virus.” Keep that in mind in case you receive an email that purports to come from BT, Yahoo, Google or Microsoft.

Hoax Slayer warns users of fake notifications that inform recipients of virus infection.

“Attention E-mail Account Holder, We were notified that your email has been infected with Trojan Virus, please ensure do not download any unknown program from the e-mail. In order to delete the virus and recover your email, please click on the following link below,” read the emails entitled “You have one message Alert.”

While at first glance it might appear that the email is designed to distribute malware, in reality it’s part of a scheme to trick users into handing over their email login credentials.

The link from the notification takes victims to a fake website where they’re asked to log in to their accounts to remove the “Trojan Virus.”

Remember to be cautious when entering your login details in a website. Make sure you’re on a legitimate, https-protected website before handing over any information.
