Cybercriminals are trying to lure users to malicious websites by promising them a free iPhone 5S and an iPad.

Do you want a new iPhone 5S or a brand new iPad? If you do, remember that no one will give you one for free without a very good reason.

Keep that in mind in case you come across an email entitled “Your email has won the latest iPhone5S smart phone & iPad promotional events.”

The bogus Apple emails, discovered by experts from Trend Micro, read something like this: “Your email has Won the latest IPHONE5S Smart Phone & IPAD Promotional Events Held last week to claim your items, please Click on Online Catalog trade link and fill in with your correct email & password information’s.”

The poorly written emails contain links that point to a phishing page where unsuspecting users are instructed to hand over their email address and its password.

In the end, no one wins anything, except for the crooks that launched the campaign. They gain access to their victims’ online accounts, which they can monetize in various ways.

In case you’re a victim of this scam, be sure to change your email account’s password immediately.
