14 DAY TRIAL // SunTrust customers are advised to be on the lookout for bank notifications entitled “Your SunTrust Activity Summary.” The emails might look legitimate, but they’re actually part of a phishing scam that’s designed to trick users into handing over their details.
The emails, identified by Hoax Slayer, look something like this:
“Your contact information has been updated. We have updated your Suntrust Bank contact information:
To view the updates, or make additional updates, sign on to update your contact information.
If you did not make this request online, by phone, or at a Suntrust branch, please call us immediately at 1-800-330-4684 for personal banking and for small business banking. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please do not reply to this email.”
Users who click on the “update your contact information” link are taken to a bogus SunTrust website on which they’re instructed to hand over their personal and financial details. The submitted information ends up in the hands of fraudsters.
