Vodafone customers are targeted with bogus system update notifications

Vodafone customers should be on the lookout these days for malicious emails entitled “Managing your Vodafone account online for free.”

The bogus emails, identified by Hoax Slayer, read something like this:

“Managing your Vodafone account online. Thank you for updating your personal details.

We are happy to inform you about our new system update:

To complete this change, please confirm your email address by clicking here www.vodafone.co.uk/security/new_security.html and entering your username and password.

If you have any queries regarding the above, please visit our Help Centre.”

The link doesn’t actually point to a genuine security-related page on Vodafone.co.uk. Instead, it takes users to a fake page where they’re instructed to enter their Vodafone usernames and passwords.

Once the information is handed over to the crooks, victims are taken to the legitimate Vodafone website.

Watch out for these emails. If you’re already a victim, change your password right away. If your account has been tampered with, contact Vodafone.
