Experts have come across what appears to be a new Halifax Bank phishing scam. The fake emails are entitled “Halifax Bank: Unconfirmed Payment Notification” and they contain links that point to a bogus Halifax website.

The emails identified by Millersmiles.co.uk appear to come from [email protected] and they read something like this:

“Dear Esteemed Customer, Halifax bank online customer service has just detected a refund slated for your account. We are unable to process this payment of 270.58 GBP to your account as your details has not been updated to our new database. Log On Here to verify your account in other for us to credit your account immediately.”

The notification has nothing to do with Halifax. Users who click on the link are taken to a fake website where they’re instructed to hand over their personal and financial information.

If you come across such emails, simply ignore them. The financial institution is aware of such scams and has even published a special page to teach users how to protect themselves against phishing.
