14 DAY TRIAL // Users in the Netherlands are advised to be on the lookout for fake Rabobank emails pointing to a phishing site.
The emails carry the subject line “SEPA: bent u al over ? Wacht niet langer en kom in actie!” and they purport to come from an iban.nl email address.
According to MX Lab, the fake notifications inform recipients that all European payments in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) region need to have a valid International Bank Account Number (IBAN) for which users need an IBAN payment card.
The links from the emails don’t point to the Rabobank website, but to a phishing page where victims are asked to hand over their personal and financial details. Once the information is handed over to the cybercriminals, users are told that they have to wait 3-5 days to receive the cards they ordered.
