David Barnett is the founder of PopSockets, LLC, a professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a pretty good dancer. Mr. Barnett has come up with a little something that you might find useful if you’re an iPhone owner, but he’s a bit short on cash right now. So he needs people to show interest in his invention.

So what does the PopSockets do besides get your groove on?

Well, it allows you to position your handset in different ways that make it more comfortable to use, such as Surfing Mode, Theater Mode, Texting Mode, FaceTime Mode and Gaming Mode.

It can become a pocketless clip, a one-hand stand or a shoulder stand, and it’s also useful when you want to wrap up your headphones.

The sockets themselves are replaceable and come in various designs. Designer sockets, with graphics, will be offered separately, and interested parties can help the professor pick the initial color schemes and socket graphics by answering a quick survey.

As the awesome professor himself puts it, “By pledging $25 or more, you are essentially pre-ordering your own PopSockets case.”

"I've spent the last year developing a better case for iPhones," Barnett writes. "After nearly 60 cycles of designing, prototyping, and revising, I teamed up with the engineers and industrial designers at Speck Design. With their help, my case is now ready for manufacture.”

“Your pledge will help me to raise the money I need to pay for the manufacturing tools […] if I reach my $12,000 goal, my project will be funded, and I'll send you one of the very first cases as soon as they are made.”

Mr. Barnett is aiming for late February / early March. Check out the man’s moves in the video below. Surely his students have had a good laugh seeing this clip. They should also be proud as hell to have this guy as a teacher.
